DEF File
There are some files
other than Design Setup files while will be generated during the Physical
Design process. Such files are used to recreate the design or store design data
as per the designer convenience.
DEF File
- Design Exchange Format is representing the physical layout of an IC in an ASCII format.
- It represents a netlist, component, placement and routing information. But it doesn’t contain any information on the used component.
- DEF file is strongly connected to the LEF file.
- So that both the files are required correct representation of the physical design of the block or chip. DEF file is generated by PNR tool.
- It is used as input in post-analysis tools such as Parasitic extraction tool or power analysis tool.
- DEF file contains design specific information and we can represent the design in DEF file at any point or stage of physical design.
- DEF file conveys logical and physical design data from/to PNR tool.
- Logical design data can include internal connectivity which is represented by netlist, grouping information and physical constraints.
- Physical design data information includes placement location and orientation of components and routing geometry.
In short, DEF file extracts
complete information physical design block unless specified.
At this note of
discussion, I wrapped this topic and we will meet soon with a new topic of
Design Setup. Thank You, Have a nice day!!!
