SAIF File
Today we are going to
take look at a different file which is also one of the important files for in
many terms such as contains toggle
counts on the signals of the design.
SAIF File
- Switching Activity Interchange Format is an ASCII file which captures the toggle rate of the signals in the design.
- This file is used for analysing the power consumption in the design.
- SAIF file can be generated from the VCD file or directly from the simulation tool.
- VCD file is Value Change Dump file which is defined in IEEE standard 1364-2001, support the logging of signal and direction. It is generated bt EDA simulation tool.
- VCD file is also used to estimate the power consumption of the design.
- SAIF file is based on static probability and toggle rate.
- Static Probability: Probability that a signal at specific logic state. SP1 is a probability of the signal being at logic state 1 and SP0 is a probability of the signal being at logic state 0.
- Toggle Rate: The number of the transition of logic 0 to logic 1 and vice-versa of design object per unit time is called toggle rate.
SAIF file is developed by
Synopsys to facilitate the interchange of information between simulation and Synopsys
power tool. Some tool can not read SAIF file so that the VCD file is used for
power analysis.
At this note of discussion, we wrapped this topic and we will meet soon with a new topic of Design Setup.
Thank You, Have a nice day!!!
