DB File

 

Till now, we saw different kinds of the file which are required in physical design. Today, we see one of them.

DB file

• It is compiled version of Lib file. 
• DB file contains some data which the Lib file has. 
• If we have a Lib file, then the DB file can be generated from the lib file. 
• Synopsys library compiler performs this conversion. 
• DB file is processed fast in Synopsys tool as it is a native form of Synopsys. 
• Synopsys tool requires .db file whereas Cadence tool requires .lib format. 
• DB File is in binary format, so we can not read whereas Lib file is in ASIC format. 
• This file is necessary for logic synthesis, CDC and PNR.
